[GreenKeys] Question About Model 15 Key Sets

Bob,
The controlling factor in what is printed in upper case is the
_printer_, not the keyboard. All keyboards send the same information.
When preceded by the "FIGS" key, an upper case character will be
printed, but it depends on the printer, not the keyboard.
For example, "C" = "01110". If "FIGS" (="11011") is received, followed
by "01110", either "?", "5/8", or "O" will be printed on a US machine,
depending on whether it is set up for "Communications", "Finance/Stock",
or "Weather."
Unfortunately, on the M15 the whole type basket (or at least many of the
type basket keys) has to be changed to change what is printed in upper
case. That was one of the improvements made in the M28: the type box
could be easily & quickly changed for different systems. European TTYs
had their own versions of upper case characters also.
See http://rtty.com/CODECARD/codecrd1.htm
You can change the keytops of your keyboard, but it won't affect what
you are sending. TTY keyboards were always designed to be removable and
on old units they don't always match the type basket of the printer.
Hope this helps.
have fun,
Duncan
