 Steve,
I think the most impressive thing about that machine is that your wife let you put it in the dining room!

Well I guess the term ‘pristine’ is defined in the eyes of the owner, but the machine was recovered yesterday!

This machine was rescued from a home that had experienced a fire, but the fire never actually reached the room where the teletype was located.  The owner, a ham, always kept a blanket over the M28 when it wasn’t in use, but the fire crews did pull down the ceiling in that room, double checking there was no fire in that portion of the attic.

This M28 is in very good condition however.  The cabinet shows no signs of rust that I have discover on cursory inspection, and the paint is in excellent condition as well.  No visible scratches either.  Internally the sound deadening materials look as if they are brand new, in other words in perfect condition.  I’ve attached a couple of pics (a few more to follow, and possibly a link to a YouTube video if I decide to power it up as see how things respond).

As seen in the close-up of the keyboard, there is some debris that I think may have come from the ceiling as the blanket was knocked askew by the fire crews.  And in some of the following pics there is evidence of gypsum board dust under the hood so to speak.

Oh, and by the way, there seems to NO evidence of a smoke smell either, as it sits in the dining room with the boss’s approval!
