Alice,
I don’t know if any one has pointed you to this document:-
http://www.samhallas.co.uk/repository/telegraph/siemens_t1000_manual.pdf
it explains the function of the individual units. Sadly, it also says that it should be serviced by board replacement so you are unlikely to find a proper service manual.
On the other hand its quite a modern design so there are not many moving bits to seize up. I don’t know what you paid for it, but as a non-working machine it should only have
Whilst ASCII machines were once to be had for free they are becoming uncommon and are keenly sort after by vintage computer geeks like me so are getting expensive.
You might want to try the cctech list.

That's awesome! I can't lie, I've been pretty discouraged by the condition of the siemens. Not because it's in horrible condition, but mostly because I'm not a hardware person and I have no clue where to begin fixing it. Hopefully I can get it back up without doing something stupid and accidentally damaging it...

I'm legitimate, ... I bought this T1000 from the Houston Computer Museum liquidation sale.

Nice machine! I always hate it when museums liquidate their collection, but I'm glad you were able to get a machine as a result. Judging by the photo, it looks to be in pretty good shape. You're lucky. Here's the web site for the Teletype Model 33 I got working:

The Model 33 I have worked on and your Simiens machine have common ancestors, but both have undergone considerable evolution from them. Nonetheless, I hope my pages are helpful, if nothing else, to teach the lesson that even severely damaged equipment can be repaired.
