And it's frozen _solid_.  Which surprises me immensely since all of the
other mechanicals on this machine are in pretty good shape.  The worst other
problem is that the rails on the carriage are "tight" in the middle and very
tight nearing the right-margin.  I am presuming that cleaning and
lubricating the rails will relatively easily cure that problem.

 

Does anyone have any experience with this particular frozen-pot condition?

 

AFAICS the remedy is to carefully disassemble it, apply penetrating oil (no,
not WD40), "work" it back into motion, clean, relubricate, and reinstall.
Probably followed by some adjustment once the carriage is operating
properly.  At the moment, of course, it goes "bang" :-<.
