Duncan: Thank you for the TT-76 tip! I as yet know *nothing* about
Kleinschmidt gear; while functionally equivalent to Teletype it’s pretty
clear that they have quite different mechanical designs from the Teletype
M14 / M15 gear that I’m currently learning. So I’m trying to get smart
before I touch the wrong place at the wrong time in the wrong manner :->. I
didn’t realize that Kleinschmidt documentation was a problem
across-the-board; assumed that I just managed to get unlucky with my
particular equipment!
Looking briefly at those documents, the -35 is the valuable low-level
maintenance publication. In none of the documents do the overall mechanism
illustrations look reasonably similar to my unit, however in the -35
document a number of detailed illustrations are clearly related (e.g., the
selecting-and-printing functional diagrams) and likely the
selecting-and-punching mechanisms diagrams as well. Seeing the various
circuit diagrams is also helpful in confirming what I am seeing.

Paul,
Yes, TM 11-2228 is hard to find.
However, the TT-109 series is basically a "RO" (receive only) TT-76. The
TT-76 manual is TM 11-5815-238-xx. They are available at
http://rattrig.com/manuals/tm's.htm
The xx is : 10 = operator manual; 20 = low level maintenance manual; 35
= high level maintenance. The "P" suffix denotes a parts manual.
have fun,
Duncan
