My point is- when a voice net is going to be held, could the net control
turn off the Channel Guard for the hour or so the net will last if there
is no interference experienced? I fully understand local conditions may
preclude this, but here in Central New York it would usually be fine.
Hacking up legacy and military surplus equipment is something many want
to avoid. Some of us would like to get our fifty year old 2 meter
handheld or shoulder bag rigs off the shelf once in a while for
something other than simplex. As for RTTY repeaters, why not call them
up by hitting "LTRS-LTRS- CR" and whatever appropriate ID is needed at
the beginning of each transmission instead of Channel Guard tone? Other
countries may have different regulations.
