The key things to note:  Plexiglass can be had in the right thickness and it's easy to cut to size and drill holes in the right places.  The hard part is the beveled edge.  I beveled mine with a plane (woodworking tool) which left it dull.  Mr Clean magic eraser and a fair amount of elbow grease was enough to make the planed bevel perfectly transparent.

And:  Testors Liquid Plastic Cement works to glue the PVC of the opaque parts of the lid, and bulk PVC filament intended for 3-D printing can be formed to make pieces needed for repair.
