My first job out of college was as a field engineer 
at the Western Union district office in Philadelphia ... 
and the general manager had sounders mounted at the 
top of the columns in the open office area, as well as 
in his office, and they repeated all the morse traffic 
on the Phila. district 'talk wire' ... this was the summer 
of 1962.
