The audio you hear, Mark is the lower audio tone. However because we normally use LSB, Mark will be the higher radio frequency.

I just read your answers again S-L-O-W-L-E-Y.The answer to #3 is making my head hurt. lol
Let me ask another way.My HF rig is set to LSB.I hear two pitches. Which is mark? The lower one I hear or the higher one?

 I have inserted answers below (and probably goofed somewhere according to Murphy’s Law). You might want to look at this booklet which may help. http://www.samhallas.co.uk/repository/telegraph/introduction_to_RTTY.pdf

Hello,
  I have been Googling all day and finding conflicting information.Maybe someone can set me strait.
I have the following questions about 45.45 Bd 170 split RTTY.
1) Does a hole punched in a tape represent mark or space?
mark
2) Which is a one and which is a zero? mark or space?
mark=1
3) What are the tone frequencies for mark and space? (I see NEW and OLD mentioned)
for ham use 2125 is M, 2295 is S. When transmitted in LSB, Space is then the lower RF freq, hence LSMFT “low space means fine teletype”
4) How many seconds is a mark or space? (at 45.45 Bd)
1/45.45 = 22 msec
5) How many seconds is a stop bit?
usually 1.42x22 msec. 7.42 unit code. For 7.00 unit, then stop is 22msec
6) When I look at a Baudot chart and see A = 11000 which bit is sent first?
the leftmost 1

Thanks,-Steve
