    I'm checking with RobotShop, which puts the CP2102 on a breakout
board, to see if they are still using the classic CP2102 or the
new CP2102N, which can't be run below 300 baud.

    Several people have built that board successfully. It's
not a beginner project. It's designed the way you design modern
electronics intended to be manufactured in bulk using automated machinery.
Seeed or JCB in Shenzhen could bang it out in volume using
solder masks and pick and place machines.

   As a one-off for hobbyists not used to modern surface
mount, designs, it's a bit tough.  You have to solder 0.5mm pitch
surface mount parts. It's a tweezers under a microscope job, like most
modern electronics.
