I insulated all conductive sleeves with heat shrink, no problems here what so ever - I'm still standing :-)
But I definitely like Harold's idea too with the shorting switches ‐ I have to look into that.

I really don't like the use of tip/sleeve connectors for this purpose. You
could end up with 100 volts on the sleeve making it pretty easy to get a
shock. I built my own patch boxes using 1/4 inch TRS jacks with shorting
switches. When nothing is plugged in, the tip and ring are shorted
