A bit of background that may be behind Bruce's advice:

In the past there have been posts about the dangers of mouse "residue": in particular mice may carry a VIRUS that is VERY VERY BAD if it infects us people. 
 
It is called the the hantavirus, and causes HPS, hantavirus pulminary syndrome, for which there is no cure. 

This situation may be akin to the much feared event possible in bridge design, rocket science, railroad construction, and nuclear power plant operation.  Tu Wit:

A major failure is very very unlikely, but if it does occur, the results can be very very disastrous.
