      After posting this I remembered this was a Pathescope 
production. Pathe had an early home movie format using 9.5mm film 
with perforations down the center between the frames. It was 
fairly successful. There was an earlier system using 28mm film, 
also aimed at home movies. There are articles in Wikipedia for both.

    The 9.5mm format had a pretty long life. The familiar 16mm 
format was developed at Kodak about the early 1930s. The 8mm 
format I think also came from Kodak to provide a very low cost 
method for home movies. Quality was not very good but the viewing 
screens were often TV size.
