There is really no significance to the term "mineral oil", One might as well
say "hydrocarbon oil". It come from the black stuff in the ground, it is
traditionally a straight alkane (non-branched) hydrocarbon fraction.
Yes, you slather junior with the leftovers from gasoline production.
I guess it does distinguish it from vegetable and animal derived oils.
