[GreenKeys] Setting up Audacity

Thanks for the info Jordan!
My computer that I want to accomplish this on is a tower computer up underneath my workbench. I do seem to remember that their were 3 jacks associated with audio on the back of the computer where other motherboard attachments go, but on the front there are only two. Audio out and microphone, no audio in. If I was to get down and try to crawl around to get access to the back side of the tower, I’m afraid my wife might have to resort to calling 911 to get me up off of the floor! And that wouldn’t be until after she returns from who knows where later this afternoon or hopefully early evening!
It's hell to be getting older. Seems like only yesterday or the day before that I was a bullet proof young stud!

I know you bullet proof guys can’t relate to the last statement, but I also know there are a few on here that know exactly what I’m referring to!

My first thought is that OSs seem to have a hard time picking up on one audio output as an audio input. Linux can supposedly pipe audio devices around more easily, though I've yet to actually experiment with that. So I've resorted to using third party software to pipe things around-- I think the one I've used for Windows was called VB Audio. You can also take a 3.5mm cable from your audio out port and plug the other end into your audio in port (not mic), assuming your desktop have both-- seems like most standard desktop motherboards do. Seems to actually be easier than the software, honestly, at least on Windows. On Mac I use Soundflower, which works a lot better in my experience.
But a recording after the fact will be posted at teletype.net for what it's worth.

I won’t be able to copy Jordan’s show today, but I had the bright idea to try to record it with Audacity. I thought I had it installed, but to my surprise I had to download and reinstall. I guess it was ages ago and I have since had to reinstall Windows on my desktop and now realize I didn’t reinstall Audacity.
I have it newly installed and when connected to ITTY with my browser, I’m hearing the tones on my speakers. If I plug my demod (Eric’s board) into the ‘earphone’ jack on the front of the desktop, the speakers turn off and I get a flickering blue LED on the demod board.
But I have not been able to record anything with Audacity. I’m sure it is a setup as well as an operator head gap issue, but I have been unable to configure Audacity with the correct record/playback devices to record the incoming audio via Audacity.
Any help greatly appreciated. Be aware you may have to lead me by the hand. It seems the older I get the more hand holding I need! 😊
