I know the dental floss trick but have not used it. The
bricks sound like a good idea. Perhaps the thing to do is to use
a couple of layers and lay another brick over the top to make a
sort of tunnel.
The trick I mentioned is to get the rats used to feeding off
the trap. Bait it but don't set it. After a couple of times they
will get used to eating off the trap and when you set it they get
caught. I tried a number of things before the exterminator came.
Rats are very smart, too bad they are so destructive. I have seen
a rat run right over a snap trap without setting it off.
