Ralph,

I'm quite familiar with the "Standard" MITEs, (AN/TGC-14, -29; AN/UGC-38
-41; TT-299, etc).  I trained on them in the Army and we have a couple
in the AWA Museum. They all used mechanical keyboards.

The MITE keyboard that Paul had was electronic, so not used with the
standard MITEs.

When training on them in the Army in late 1966, we were told that MITE
was out of business and it was hard to get parts.  But I've seen some
indications that they may have resurfaced in the 1970s. There is an IC
on the mystery  MITE keyboard that looks like it has a 1972 date code.

For those not familiar with MITE, there is a good history at
http://www.decadecounter.com/vta/articleview.php?item=128

Also MITE info at http://rtty.com/development/teletype/mite/index.html

The company's original name was the Teleprinter Corp. and the printer
was know as a Miniature Integrated Teleprinter Equipment (MITE). At some
point, like the Teletype Corp., they changed their company name to that
of their major product.

Western Union worked with them initially to find a cheaper alternative
to the Teletype Corp. M28. There are articles on the MITE in the WU
Technical Review in 1957-58, but that apparently didn't work out. So if
you can't manufacture something for commercial price ranges, you go to
the military market.

Have fun.
