Ugh. The old Teletype that came with my 1965-vintage PDP-8 was in bad shape, it now works, but all we had to do was completely disassemble it and use lots of degreaser, then reassemble. That TTY now works pretty well.
The PDP5 you have is amazing. Rarer than my PDP-8. I used to have a boatload of spare systems modules (they came with the PDP-8 but there are none of them in it). I gave those away to someone restoring a machine that uses them, including some new still in factory packaging. System modules are lovely, with low-density printed circuits compared to the flip chips of 1965, aluminum frames, and no card-edge connectors. Have fun getting things to work!
