Wonder what made them work again?  And wonder what made you think to try that??

Subject: Re: [GreenKeys] ST-6 neon lamp part number

I purchased a nixie clock kit 10 years ago off of ebay.  Was just the board and parts less nixies.  I had a bunch from an old HP counter.  A few of the nixies would not fire - set them out in the bright summer sun for a few days and the clock is still ticking!

Neon bulbs do not have a getter, so gasses imbedded in the glass can come out and contaminate the neon. Atmospheric gasses may diffuse through the glass. The neon may embed itself in the crystalline structure of the electrodes. Neon sign tubes must have new electrodes installed and be re-evacuated and refilled periodically, usually measured in decades. They tend to require this more frequently if they are lit constantly. They are very long lived, but not forever.

NE-2s generally last forever. I'd check the wiring to it before replacing it.

What can possibly break down in an NE-2 (apart from mechanical failure of the bulb etc)?
