"In remembrance of those among us now who returned to their homes, families
and the day to day living despite the horrors of war they endured, and
those who returned home to a final rest on familiar, sometimes familial
ground, to those who sleep in foreign fields and await a return to a
greater Home, and those prisoners of war who still live, whether in the
jungles, or the cold terror within their minds I stop and reflect that
everything I am, know, have and be is because of your sacrifice and
obedience to that higher sense of duty which speaks its demand "Greater
love hath no man, than he who surrenders his life for his friends". Whether
that measure was loyal service to the task at hand or ultimately the
greatest, hardest decision and act of giving your life- so we know the
freedoms we know today, I hold you in my heart's temple and remember who
you are to me. Some of you are my family, my friends and most of you I have
yet to meet but I will, in an Accounting the likes of which will never be
equaled again, before God Almighty Himself greet you then with the
heartiest of thanks. For those of you with me now I enjoy the great
privilege to look you in the eyes and thank you. Because of the brave- you-
my hope of life in the greatest nation on earth is vouchsafed.

Because of you, I will remember the fragile peace, the timorous triumph and
the fleeting moments of greatness, and watch with great jealousy and resist
proudly that which would take it away from us. This is the least I can do,
short of my own breath to honor you, to defend what you gave me most nobly.
