If you remove the typing unit and the keyboard unit, you've removed
probably 1/3 to half of the weight of the KSR, and made it
significantly less topheavy.  The keyboard unit's plastic cover and
the way the unit is mounted to the frame also makes it vulnerable to
damage if you try to move the cabinet by the keyboard extension, so
removing it makes it safer (for the Teletype) to move.
