No.  The tape reader is definitely set up for narrow tape (there are two peg-shaped guide pins on the downstream (front) side of the reader.  You can clearly see that the rightmost pin is in the left (narrow) position, with a hole to the right of it where the pin would go if it was set up for one-inch tape.  A really beautiful machine, though.
