I didn't feel betrayed, but I did feel chastened: I suggested that real 
machines would look more realistic, and one of the producers took me 
aside and said "We sell soap. That's all we do. We already know how to 
do it, and we don't need your ideas."

So I learned a few things about television:

 1. Appearances *_are_* reality.
 2. They sell soap.
 3. New ideas are not welcome.
