OK, let me try this again by resizing the pictures. I have succeeded in
removing almost all the parts from the cabinet of this machine. The
most obviously interesting things about this machine were the power
supply and card chassis in the base. The card chassis was not connected
to the wiring harness at the top of the cabinet; the power supply was.
I found the labels in the bottom of the base. They had come off their
respective transformers. They are extremely fragile and will soon
crumble to dust but at least I have pictures for the descriptions. So,
just in time for Father's Day, I am the proud parent of a selenium
rectifier power supply! The card chassis is impressive but, I suppose,
not useful for anything.
I will post some other pictures later. I have been trying to clean and
re-lubricate parts as I go. I have cleaned the perforator and almost
finished lubricating it. I have cleaned the typing unit and can start
lubing it. I think that all the mechanical parts will work fine except
for the type box. I am sure it is a total loss because of the rust. I
was able to get the type pallets moving freely but the springs no longer
have enough "spring" in them to operate properly.
The machine appears to have been geared for 100wpm so if I want to try
to use this in ham applications I guess I will need new gears.
The cabinet appears to have been re-painted at some point and it was a
poor job. Wherever it sat for the past few decades it was exposed to
spray paint because there are tiny flecks of white paint all over it.
It isn't noticeable for a distance but up close it is a bit like
glitter. I guess the absolute best thing to do would be to sandblast
the cabinet and completely re-paint it but I'm not sure I can go that
far. There's still quite a bit of rust on the inside, especially in the
very bottom. I still have quite a bit of dirt to remove from the base.
Wasn't there some discussion about putting casters on these things?
Will the feet in the cabinet come out?
