New member here. First licensed in 1957 with call sign K8EZB. In 2017, I
returned to amateur radio after a 50+ year inactive period. Before my
temporary retirement from amateur radio decades ago, it was my intent to
get into RTTY with electromechanical gear, but life intervened before I
could get to it. Now that I am back, I’d like to give this a try (I think).
Have RTTY up and running on my 7610 in AFSK and FSK modes using
WinWarbler/MMTTY. Would now like to add an electromechanical terminal.
(There is something still appealing about the clatter of a teleprinter!)
Have been doing a little homework and, so far, it looks like a Model 32
RO/KSR/ASR would be a suitable choice. Ideally, I’d like to find a 32 in
excellent working and cosmetic condition, and with suitable electronics for
amateur radio use, as I have very limited shop facilities, test gear, and
relevant experience to do a restoration. Questions: 1) is a Model 32 an
appropriate choice? 2) Any pointers as to where to obtain this gear? Any
guidance much appreciated.
An (easier?) alternative may be to develop a helper app for MMTTY that
plays teleprinter sounds through the computer audio system somewhat like
the synthetic exhaust sounds piped through the audio system in modern
performance cars! ;-)
Thanks,
Rick, K8EZB
