[GreenKeys] 28 ASR Typing Reperforator Print Hammer Replacement

Both of the typing reperforators in my new AN/UGC-6K model 28 ASR are missing their print hammers. From the parts manual diagrams, I presume that they were little rectangular blocks of molded rubber stuck onto the pivoting lever that whacks the tape against the ribbon and typewheel. Part numbers are 173979, or 176138 for a modification kit to provide a more resilient print hammer.

I would guess that even if there are NOS hammers around, they've decomposed by now. How do 28 ASR experts usually go about replacing their hammers? I think a bit of rubber tubing on the end of the lever would at least keep it from clanking against the typewheel, but would that provide usable print quality with its convex cross section of the resulting hammer face? The parts manual drawings imply that the original hammer face is slightly concave.

Is there any convenient way to search the Greenkeys archives? I didn't see a search mechanism on the archive page. I apologize if my print hammer inquiry is a FAQ.
