Back in my dot-matrix printer days I used cotton for general stuff and 
drafts (cheaper, but smudged a bit) and nylon for the final copy (but more 
expensive).

I've never seen that sign, but it makes sense if the buildings are joined 
by a pedestrian bridge; I even had to use one once...
