Yeah, you don't see much Postal stuff existing anymore.
Few years ago I bought a relay box with the Postal name on it - must have
been in someone's attic since before 1942.
Since it's been a while, I will again mention a couple of good books.
The story of telecommunications by George P. Oslin. Written when the
author was in his 80s, he was the public relations guy for Western Union
for his whole working life. The first part of the book is a mess, as
he tells about all the early telegraph companies and their squabbles.
The middle part of the book is excellent, covering the lifetime of
Western Union Telegraph. The last part is again a mess, as he tried
to cover the business in its later years and of course companies were
coming and going too fast to keep track of.
The telegraph : a history of Morse's invention and its predecessors
in the United States by Lewis Coe.
This is a complement to Oslin's book, tells the story more from the
viewpoint of Postal Telegraph.
