I wish I could qualify as a Model 28 tech. I only know enough to be dangereous. I'm about 45 minutes from the Iowa. My Dad and I toured her last summer.
BTW, my Dad was on a tin can in Korea and got to see one of the Iowa class battleships fire in combat. VERY impressive! Especially compared to the 5 inch guns on the destroyer.

Message delivered to jim at k6ccc.orgThe battleship USS Iowa in San Pedro is getting their model 28 gear on the
air. Their experienced teletype maintenance guy is having health issues, so
they could use a hand with cleaning/lubing/adjusting their 28ASRs and other
equipment.
I wish I was 3000 miles closer - they have all kinds of interesting M28
gear in original condition and waiting to be revived - compacts, waterfall
printers, multiple reperf cabinet, multiple TD cabinet, etc.

If you are interested and can volunteer some time, please send me email and
I'll put you in touch with the guys who have so far wired up one of the
28ASR machines and installed 60wpm gears.
Cheers,
Nick England K4NYW
