[GreenKeys] Crypto Sync Pulse on M28 machines

I dunno - I never worked on crypto. But FWIW, I do have USN installation
drawings that all include the step pulse connections from KW-7 back to TD
and Keyboard.
And all the Navy's low-level 28ASRs had two clutch magnet drivers (in ESA
323812) - one for the keyboard and one for the TD.

I wonder why it seems like the Navy made a big deal out of KW-7 syncing but
the Army and Air Force evidently didn't. Was it a low-level signaling
thing? Something related to long distance HF radioteletype?

Hmm, Jerry Proc's KW-26 page has info about running in "cable mode" (Speed
Normalizer) which was 57-58 wpm.

In that case you'd have to throttle down the TD by using a sync pulse.
Maybe the KW-7 provided step signals so you could use the TTY equipment on
either KW-7 or KW-26?

The Navy's later AFSK receive converters (CV-3510()/UG) also had a "secure"
mode that synced the incoming bit stream to a bit clock - which only worked
on 7.00 and not 7.42 characters of course - drove me crazy troubleshooting
one of these things until I discovered the hidden "secure/clear" switch.
What was that bit sync for?

I'm just guessing in the almost total darkness here - Maybe some day the
NSA will process my FOIA request and send me KW-7 and KW-26 manuals - not
holding my breath though...
Cheers,
