I forgot to add:  This is a good example of why "Teletype" should not be 
used generically!

The AN/FGQ-3 says "Teletype" on it, but it is not a 
teleprinter/teletypewriter!

Its a "Morse" Perforator, aka "Klein" perforator.  It perforates two 
lines of holes  to be read and then transmitted as high-speed Morse 
code. Sometimes called a "Wheatstone" perforator. Wheatstone first had 
the idea of perforated tape, but his device just had three buttons on 
it: dash-space-dot and you used a hammer/mallet to push the buttons.

E.E. Kleinschmidt added the keyboard and started manufacturing them in 
the early 1900s. Teletype Corp. continued manufacturing them after the 
merger, up through WWII.
