Johannes Kok (the name might not be familiar to you if you are not into i-Telex, but most i-Telex users know of Johannes) has built a machine to make 3/8 paper tape.

There is a very nice Siemens telex machine called the T68D that was used back in the day to print telex messages on narrow tape. This tape was often gummed on the back and used for telegrams. The US had similar machines and tape. The problem is this tape is getting harder and harder to find. There are rolls stashed around here and there, but it is in danger of running out.  

So Johannes has built a machine to make the tape, even gummed tape. Some other people in Germany (I believe) are working with him to help to help test the tape. If successful, there will be a new source for 3/8inch tape.
