Hi Tom --
Thanks for your offer of assistance. It's much appreciated.
Actually, I don't need any of them. My Model 15 is running fine.
However...
For the ribbon thingy I've been using a piece of genuine Bell System waxed
lacing cord for about the last 25 years, cut to length and tied into a loop
with about six granny knots. It's been working fine but I've always
worried that it will break at some point, and wondered if the correct part
is available. I still have lots and lots of lacing cord, so I can always
make another if need be.
I have a piece of glass glass in the cabinet now, but it has a vertical
hairline crack. it's been that way ever since I got it, but if I have the
chance to replace it a some point with Teletype glass then I'd like to do
so. I don't have need to pull out the glass so the crack may stay just a
hairline crack forever.
I've never understood the concept of the pulling and holding magnets for
the M15. I have two magnets in my M15, wired in parallel, but one of the
coils (the outside coil) is nicked and open circuit. That means the inner
coil is carrying all the current but should be producing the same amount of
total flux (since the current in one coil is double and the other is
zero). The working coil doesn't even get warm at 60mA of continuous loop
current, and the TTY prints well. I was thinking of replacing the open
coil but I may be better off just leaving things as they are.
My M15 typing unit has a conventional set of type pallets but the keyboard
has a fractions keyboard. The keyboard looks like it may have had a
somewhat hard life, and it's missing a few keycaps, but it works fine.
Nothing wrong operationally. But I',m always on the lookout for what might
be a better keyboard, just for the cosmetics issue.
