The first TTY I had at home came with a PDP-8S that I borrowed from the
computer science department, where I was a student assistant, back in 1969.

I was also just out of the Navy as an AT, and for a few extra bucks
attended some Naval Reserve
meetings at a VP squadron in Marietta, Georgia, and almost got a Mite
being removed from a P2, but someone
with more clout got it, at a lot of hassle.

And of course, one of the founders of the Homebrew Computer Club got
involved since he wanted
to run RTTY without the machine, while others in the club were using
them as printers.
