Back in the day, Creeds were cheap and many computer hobbyists were
using 5-bit TTY's for printers.
And one of the founding members of the Homebrew Computer Club
specifically got involved to try to use
a computer on the air for ham radio RTTY.
Of course, that was 50 years ago, so no wonder it's come around again.
And the original Unix was specifically written with short keyboard
commands because their common IO device
was a model 33, so cryptic commands saved substantial time.
