[GreenKeys] Another Story

I’ll be brief, and I must admit these stories about Teletype and RTTY .
This is from 1966 to 1969 story.
I was introduced to RTTY by none other than Irv Hoff, K8DKC.
I was living at home, Ann Arbor Michigan. I was 15 years old after
uograding to general.
My father knew Irv as Dad was a M.D. and also a FAA Medical Examiner.

Irv was a pilot for United Air Lines, and my father administered his yearly
exam, and Irv told my Dad to invite me to his house to look over and learn
about RTTY.
I was enthralled at his house on West Huron River Drive in Ann Arbor. Model
28 ‘s
I believe there were at least 2. We struck up a nice conversation, asked if
he could help me get started, and magically, the next day or2 I got a call
to come pick up a Model 15 in Detroit area at the MBT ( Michigan Bell
Telephone) surplus equipment depot. I built my first home brew TU using a
single 5763 from the ARRL RTTY handbook . But it worked , you had to zero
beat the lower tone so it worked by either mark or space demos only can’t
remember which one the lower tone was)
Anyway, shortly after, as  I had asked to be put on a wait list for a Model
19, one became available complete down to the table. Back in the old 66
Ford Bronco, picked that up and believe it or not was able to figure out
the wiring blocks and terminal blocks to the keyboard, selector magnets, TD
, using only a VOM and patience.
Refurbished a W2PAT TU. Used that with a Hammarlund HX50A which was easy to
cobble up for FSK, and Hallicrafters receiver, Heathkit SB200 for many
 happy hours on 80 m FSK.also home-brewed a AFSK tone unit and messed
around on AFSK ( an AM mode) on 2 meters with an Ameco TX-62 and a Johnson
6 n 2 Converter.
