(Checks carefully to make sure that "OT:" is in the Subject...)

Indeed; it's a survival mechanism as long as it's not overdone (and is
clearly marked as such). And on one mailing list where I hang out,
everything is considered to be on-topic except the subject of the list
itself... It's a list for propeller-heads :-)

Sort of like the difference between lions and pussy cats; they will both
bite and scratch, but only one of them has an attitude... The wallaby
(plural: wallabies, although occasionally I've been known to use
"wallabii" but that's just me) is smaller than a kangaroo (in much the
same way that llamas are bigger than frogs). Their full name is "rock
wallaby" because, well, unlike your average 'roo they can climb rocks...

s/mate/sport/ and it's from "Tie me kangaroo down" by Rolf Harris, who
went on to become a convicted paedophile, got stripped of his "Order of
Australia" award, and was removed from various honour rolls. We Aussies
don't talk about him in polite company... Whilst on the subject (albeit
off-topic), like the Australian anthem one verse is no longer sung:

Let me abos go loose, Bruce
     Let me abos go loose
Oh they're no flamin' use, Bruce
     Let me abos go loose.

Can't think why...
