I am LOVING these stories!! Kinda funny Im eating dinner, and by the time I read one another one pops up. 

I’ll add a part 2 onto mine: When I was in grade school my uncle lived next door to a recycling center, who was handling a lot of stuff from the ma bell divesture. Truckloads of old phones, switchboards, at&t “dataphone” equipment, mainframes, you name it. They were family friends and my uncle would take me down to root around and bring back a box of stuff to take apart. Some of it was brand new surplus!

Lo and behold a few years go by, and thanks to a bad report card I was banned from my computer, but I was huge into BBSes at the time (early 90s). On one of my trips to the junkyard I saw a “typewriter” with a phone jack on it, and dragged it home. Somehow I figured it out and was messaging my buddies again, at 300 baud, on a Teletype 43.

“Just typing my homework mom!”

Now I have another 43 that I hope to get working again - I keep forgetting I have it!
