[GreenKeys] HAL ST-8000

Paul,

The ST-8000 is probably the “Cadillac” TU. It is more sensitive, has lower noise floor, has variable input bandwidth, has more demod modes, has real regeneration including to/from ASCII and differing baud rates (has a buffer), has 8 memories for mark/space/baud rate settings, has adjustable print/LOS squelch, & more. The ST-8000A filter, mod, demod, & control circuitry is VERY similar to the ST-8000, but the “bells & whistles” were left out. The ST-8000A was made as a drop-in replacement for the Frederick 1280A modem. In normal “Greenkeys” use, I don’t think all those extra features do a whole lot for you, though. From what I understand, the ST-8000 is rare nowadays, and brings a premium price (I paid $300 for mine).

Bill
