[GreenKeys] META: Did Greenkeys suddenly change hosts?

Scott

Thanks for filling us in on that. groups.io does try and educate its users, but its now so big it really has to be down to the list owners/managers to try and educate their users, so they unsubscribe them and point them to that FAQ and tell the list owners. I also think that as the lists at qth.net are mainly aimed at the more technical person, who hopefully, are more understanding with the issues you get. There is a bigger mix of users at groups.io, for example we use it for the local Campaign for Real Ale for distributing information about “cask conditioned beer” (it’s a Brit thing). Obviously while some of our members are technical, not all are, and I am sure being alcohol related could cause problems.

Almost every major email provider has what's called a "Feedback Loop". When a user marks an email as spam, the provider will send a copy of the spam report to the ISP that generated the original "spam" email... but only IF the ISP has signed up for that Feedback Loop. At QSL.net/QTH.net, we have signed up for as many of the Feedback Loops as we are aware of. Thus, when a list subscriber marks a message as spam, we get notified, and we take action, to stop further spam reports from that user. That includes educating them on what the "this is spam" button really is, or, if needed, unsubscribing them from the list.

Big providers like Groups.io don't have time for that, I'm sure. But we are small enough to care about our reputation, to spend time working with these uneducated users that click "this is spam" wrongly.

Folks,

I know that groups.io <http://groups.io> has considerable issues with being listed as SPAM. They have found that if some one marks e-mail as SPAM the whole list gets marked as spam. There is some interface where they are notified of this.

There is an FAQ about it here.

I don’t see any real solution to this, except perhaps to warn users of the providers listed in the link above that their provider may block mail from greenkeys…

Hi Dave:

You are not alone in having issues getting email from greenkeys. I think much of it seems to be related to ISPs clamping down on what they think is spam, or blacklisting greenkeys, or things like that. Some folks have just simply changed email providers to fix it.

I copied Scott Neader here -- he is the fellow who knows more about the GK system than I can see as a list moderator.

If you have had (or currently have) a problem with greenkeys lately (it seems like the last year has gotten noticeably worse), please chime into this conversation and let us know what has been happening to you. Of course, some of you may not see this message :( since it will come from GK.

My spam reject log:

Date: Sep 22 00:00:17 (x8LE02rY074072)
from=<greenkeys-bounces at mailman.qth.net <mailto:greenkeys-bounces at mailman.qth.net> >
relay=mailman.qth.net <http://mailman.qth.net>  [69.16.227.189] (may be forged)
reject=451 4.1.8 Possibly forged hostname for 69.16.227.189

And DNS says:

ozzie:~ dave$ host mailman.qth.net <http://mailman.qth.net>
mailman.qth.net <http://mailman.qth.net>  has address 104.27.169.135
mailman.qth.net <http://mailman.qth.net>  has address 104.27.168.135

One of these things is not the same...
