Hi Jim,

That would be a great project - I wonder if anyone has done so? At least 
a lot of the FSS history has been preserved, as can be seen here for 
example - the large Omaha FSS:

services have been consolidated over time and presently are outsourced 
to Leidos Flight Service, which is owned by Lockheed Martin.

I don't know if there's a name for the affliction of being fascinated 
with bygone infrastructure (especially if it's related to radio) but so 
much has been lost that sites like this that have preserved some images 
at least are important, I think.    If you browse around the facilities 
links above there are lots of teletype machines, since that was the 
backbone of the ATC system for many years.   The smaller centers didn't 
have the switching equipment that was in service at Omaha (15 
circuits),  but I'm guessing each had at least two machines - one for 
weather and one for the FAA wire.    Plus maybe a FAX machine.
