Last week the question of the weight of a Model 19 came up.
The responses contained a good estimate, but no empirical numbers.
I've just been able to remedy this: the short answer is 320 pounds.
By way of explanation... In rearranging some machinery, I was
going to have to hoist up a Model 19 soon anyway in order to put
a mobile base under it. What I lacked was a suspended scale - but
I've been wanting one, and this was a good excuse :-)
Here's a photo of the machine in the air, suspended by the scale:

(The copy holder is sitting on top of the machine. I had to remove
it so that the straps wouldn't bend it.)
Here's a photo of the scale:

In the photo, the scale reads 340 pounds, but the wooden cradle
that I had to build to suspend the machine weighs 19 pounds.
So 320. The scale's maker, Sherline (of micro-lathe fame)
claims a 2% error limit. If that is evenly distributed,
then the weight would be 320 pounds plus or minus 3 1/2 pounds.
The machine does have its original power supply and the back panel
on the desk. It's missing four keycaps, but I didn't factor that
in to the weight. (And thanks to the Greenkeyer who sent me
replacement keycaps several years ago - sorry I haven't installed
them yet.)
Hope this is of use.

David M.
