Warehouse Sound (search for it at http://bh.hallikainen.org/wiki/ ) in San
Luis Obispo CA was a big stereo mail order company in the 1970s. They had
a computer system that the salespeople would use to write letters to
customers. The salespeople could select what paragraphs to put in the
letters. The paragraphs had X'd out text so it looked like it was written
by the sales person directly.

Also, at a convention of non-profits, I saw an exhibit that had machines
for signing letters. They were pretty much plotters that would write the
signature on the fund-raising letter. Which reminds me, I still have my
Houston Instruments DMP-29 plotter ( similar item at
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Houston-Instruments-DMP-29-Plotter-115V-50-60Hz-6A-/143149373543
) that I used for plotting schematics and printed circuit boards with a
CP/M CAD system called Dasoft.
