I don't have the spec or a photo, but think I have seen a printer so
equipped.  It was just some rods, perhaps aluminum hex cross section,
similar to the cross piece at the back of the printer.  Slightly rounded
on one end, and the other end perhaps drilled and tapped for 6-40 or 
perhaps with a stem threaded for 6-40.  The M28 parts book shows a lot of
mod kits, but I didn't see that one mentioned.  You'd think with a 
four-digit spec number it would be fairly old, since they went to five
digit numbers later.  All starting with 5 which was for specs for mod kits
and things that might be seen by the customer.

So if you can find some rod stock, just cut pieces long enough to clear
everything that sticks out the side of the typing unit, grind or file one
end smooth, and drill the other end and tap for 6-40 or 6-32 as you
choose.  Then put them into spare holes in the end plates, or on to
existing screws that go through the end plates.
