Hey all,
Not sure who all would be interested, but over the past month, I have been working with a programmer in Pakistan (...it works ^_~ ) to help devise a Python script for the Raspberry Pi - one that would scrape alerts for a county/location from the NWS and print it onto a Teletype via v2 of the Volpe board. Worked over the past month on tweaking it, trying to make it work, testing it, etc… and it’s all ready for prime time!
What the script does is that every 3.7 seconds, it does a web scrape from the NWS API server for a specified county/location. If a new weather watch/warning/advisory is realized, then the script will automatically turn on the Teletype via relay, print out the alert will bells (four for an advisory/statement; five for a watch; ten for a warning), turn off the Teletype and then continue scraping until a new alert shows. The printout is very close to what the old weather wire service use to look like. This script can also work without the relay, with a slight bit of easy modifying. Through testing, the Teletype will print out the alert anywhere from the same minute any watch/warning/advisory is issued, to roughly one or two minutes after.
With the permission of the script writer, I’m making this script available to anyone who is interested. I did pay a bit of change for it - will not disclose how much I paid, but for those who may would be interested in having script, all I would ask is a donation (is that a right word???) - however much you see fit, to help recoup some of the costs I incurred in having it made. Disclaimer: I am not looking to make a profit off of this, nor doubt that I would. The hope is if enough people are interested and I can recover a little bit of the cost, then I can continue to have him make some additional scripts for the Raspberry Pi, for Teletype, down the road. The first on my list is RTTY for version 2 of the Volpe board - hopefully - whenever that may happen ;p .
…so any who, if you are interested, please contact me off list… I’ll get you going on it :) .
Cheers ^^ !!!~
