I have finally gotten the machine “fixed up” to my satisfaction and lubricated and moved upstairs to my shack. I replaced the keyboard Lockbar to get the Send/Receive switch working. It was a real pain trying to get the code bars all back in place until I figured it all out. I also made a dual solid state line relay which works quite well (cheap SSR’s have switching times that may or may not be in spec. - I got one that was so far out that it wouldn’t switch 45 baud.) After a little frustration getting it hooked up to my ST-8000 (needs to be full-duplex), I finally transmitted a few CQs (via Flex 6400M) which were received well by reverse beacon network stations across the country. No replies, though. (sigh)
To move it upstairs, I removed everything that was removable except for the ESU and the two shock-mounted bars. It weighed in at approx. 87 pounds. I made some handles using 2x4’s and some legs from a couple of lawn chairs that were being tossed out (bolted on to the sides of the machine). My daughter and I had no problems getting it up the stairs using the handles.
