At least for black crinkle finish boiled linseed oil works
like a charm. Coat it and rub off the excess. Then let it dry. It
makes the finish look wet and new although its dry and doesn't
collect dust. It looks as good as petroleum oil but eventually
dries where the oil never does.
Also works on smooth finishes and colors but not as well as
black. The problem with shoe polish is that it comes off when you
clean.
For a wax finish try old fashioned Victorian age furniture
wax which is bee's wax dissolved in turpentine.
