Soon I will be taking a brief trip down to Portland, Oregon, to
inventory, photograph, describe, and state condition of the assorted
pieces of teletype and teletype associated electronic equipment
bequeathed to the teletype enthusiasts of America.
What I need to know from all persons interested in the hobby or perhaps
the equipment itself, just what the current interest in general there is
for said equipment.
The arrangement hoped for with John La Rue, owner and curator for the
museum that burned down in California five or six years ago has crumbled
for several reasons, primarily lack of space to store it all and how to
fund getting it there.
The young man Pete designated as custodian of his estate has no
technical experience with the gear, and is quite anxious to get it out
of the house Pete occupied.
Pete was a generous man, and wanted the gear to be cared for and
cherished by those who got it.
The problem with America nowadays is the cost of shipping all of the
gear to whomever may want it.
I need some advice and opinions from you folks as to just how to proceed.
The condition and photos of each piece will be placed on a server which
is being prepared by Paul Heller.
There is apparently no West Coast interest at all, and I'm beginning to
wonder whether or not the old love and furor that used to be associated
with TTY gear has gone the way of the DoDo Bird.
Please let me know your thoughts.
I am not in any financial condition to manage such an assortment, and I
feel certain that the conservator of the estate does not share Pete's
generosity in helping out with its dispersal.
So in a nutshell, WHAT DO WE DO???
Thanks in advance,
George - W7TTY
