A 50 Hz motor should work fine on 60 Hz power - it's the other way you
can't go (because not enough iron in the 60 Hz motor to run it on 50.)Tom WB2TTY

There was a thread a year or so about motors designed for 60Hz being used on 50Hz and vice versa. One way works, one way does not. I cannot recall which.

The motor is synchronous with split phase starting if there is no start capacitor or? capacitor start if there is.? Capacitor start gives higher starting torque, but split phase is less expensive and gives a more gentle start.? The black disc activates the the start switch, it will snap toward the fan when the speed is sufficient. The brass weights you see close to the fan move outward at speed, and warp the black metal ring. It changes shape in a snap, and pulls the black plastic ring toward the fan. This releases the pressure on the brown lever that is attached to the start switch.? This design is used on many makes of motors, and in almost every case the ring does not touch the lever when the motor is at speed.? Does the motor refuse to start, or overheat?

Evening All.

I got an KSR35 yesterday, and opened it today for inspection.
It has a pedestal, and is able to use tracktor feed paper.
I noticed something unusual at the motor, it has some sort
of disk attached to it, and is able to push a lever at the side.

See the attached picture.

Is it some sort of speed govenor? The pedestal has a fairly heavy
stop down transformator, (we have 230V/50Hz) and the (German) type
plate tells it is 230V/60Hz.

Thanks,

Ed
