Hi all,

unless British Creed 7's with a 3-row keyboard, European machines always
have 4 rows,
known either as a "condensed" or "government agency" keyboard, since the
government had trained operators
to use the "special" keyboard different from a normal typewriter.
For use in normal business offices for Telex, machines are mainly equipped
with the 4-row "full size"
keyboard which has a separate key for each letter or figure. In the 1960s
machines with automatic (Speichersender = memory transmitter)
switching between the letters and figures level became popular. Originally
invented by Siemens in the 1930s
for Scandinavia to avoid switching to figures level for the special
Scandinavian "Umlaute", as in Scandinavia
there is no alternative writingof their Umlaute like we have in Germany
ä=ae, ö=oe, ü=ue.
It is a 6 byte mechanical FIFO memory device in the keyboard transmitter
unit.
Here is a very good video made of the Siemens T100S machine where you can
see how it works:

Of course, when teleprinters became electronic the full size automatic
letter-figure switching keyboard
became standard, like at the FS200 and all others.

Model 32s where never used in Europe. The machines with European syle 4-row
"condensed" keyboard
that appear now from time to time might have been intended for some other
export countries.
